Ireland told to impose child protection on gambling exposure

While finalizing the regulatory provisions of the Gambling Regulation Bill of Ireland, the Irish government has been cautioned to take into account the exposure of children to gambling marketing in the media and in sports.

The alert was issued by the research group BMC Public Health, which is working on a “qualitative study exploring children’s exposure to and understanding of gambling marketing, risks, and harms in Ireland.”

A "significant increase in underage gambling" as reported by Irish public health agencies and growing concerns about the "normalization of gambling in sports" prompted the commissioning of research.
