According to the bill as it stands, commercials for gambling on television and radio between 5.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. would be prohibited. Concerned about this in particular, the horse racing industry demanded that subscription horse racing channels be given an exemption, a request that has thus far been denied. A compromise is now being put forth by officials in the horse racing industry: a total 24-hour prohibition on gambling advertisements on television, with the exception of subscription channels.
