Irish senate committee questions lottery & betting advertisement exemption in new bill

A senior senate committee is raising concerns about why the National Lottery is exempt from planned legal restrictions on gambling advertising.

The Gambling Regulation Bill suggests outlawing betting advertisements on all Republic media from 5.30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The National Lottery and the Cash Machine game operated by radio stations Newstalk, Today FM, and 98FM are not included in the ban, according to a letter from the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice to the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, who is the bill's promoter.
