IRS warns sports bettors not to wager on events illicitly

The NFL season began on Thursday night, and the IRS issued a warning to sports bettors ahead of time about the need to only place bets with reputable, legal sportsbooks and the requirement to report winnings as regular income.
The IRS advises gamblers to limit their wagering to sites that are regulated in states where sports betting is allowed. According to the federal government agency in charge of tax collection, those who don't run the risk of facing legal action.
