Following a 3-2 loss to Manchester City that resulted in their elimination from the League Cup, Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 3-1. That victory did not result in a better position on the table, but it undoubtedly gave the team more confidence going into this contest. Although they are still 15 points off of league leaders Arsenal, their top priority is to get up to the top four. The top four are five points away from them. Liverpool should have the necessary momentum after three straight victories in the league, but in five games overall, they have failed to record a shutout. In each of their previous four league games, there were more than 2.5 goals scored. Only two of Liverpool's last eight games have ended without a goal.
