Is it necessary to specialize in a specific poker variant to achieve success?

I have dabbled in several poker variants as a recreational casino player hoping to gain an edge through varied experience. While expertise in any one game surely helps, I wonder if becoming an specialist in a single variant is absolutely necessary to win at poker long-term.

As a poker player, constantly adapting your strategy and skills across different games may keep you fresher and more versatile. The fundamentals of pot odds, position, bluffing and tells ultimately transcend any particular set of rules. Savvy players know how to translate their knowledge even when the specifics of card values or betting structures shift.

Though study and practice focused on a primary game is wise, being too narrow in approach could make you predictable. Success at poker, in my view, comes from a flexible and calculating mindset more so than absolutism about this or that variant. The question is, must you choose and master just one game, or can a versatile player thrive at multiple poker games?
