Is poker as stressful a game as it seems?

Poker ain't stressful if you play it right. Sure, there's pressure in any high-stakes game, but that's part of the thrill. The smart players, they know how to manage it.

The amateurs, they get all worked up over every hand, every bet. But pros know that each hand's just a drop in the bucket. We think in terms of the big picture, the odds and percentages playing out over time. Every hand could be a winner, but most likely ain't. So we play cautiously and leave our emotions at the table.

Stress comes from not having a plan, from chasing losses and bad bets out of desperation. A good poker player goes in with discipline and a strategy. We calculate the risks and only put more money in the pot when the odds favor us. The game may seem stressful on the surface, but for players with a level head and a solid system, it's really quite simple. Compared to many ways folks make a living, poker's downright relaxing.
