Poker ain't officially illegal in Qatar. However, most forms of gambling are banned under Islamic law which that country follows. Poker's a game of skill they say, but the authorities still tend to look the other way when it comes to fancier card games and gambling.
Now don't get me wrong, there ain't no huge underground poker scene or public card rooms in Qatar either. Most Qataris tend to play casual poker among themselves or at private clubs/parties rather than brazen public games. The religion police could likely shut a game down quick, so folks are just discreet about it. Poker technically legal, but definitely not openly practiced, you might say!
