Yes. Sports betting was introduced in December 2021 after being approved and regulated in 2021. The first day of online sports betting was November 23, 2022.
Even if it was approved, many details regarding both in-person and online betting still need to be written, thus the earliest possible date is late 2021. Despite the recent wording adjustment, recent polls have shown little overall support for legalizing sports betting.

In the hoys, many voters have already voted for sport betting to be legalize I Maryland since November 2020 but the bill was not passed by the legislator until April 2021 which almost a year later. So they have to wait for almost or more than a year again before sport betting was launched(November 2022)

Sports betting is legal in Maryland, following the approval of HB 940 by Governor Larry Hogan in May 2021. The law permits adults aged 21 and older to engage in sports betting. Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency regulates the industry, issuing licenses to operators. The law allows for 60 online sportsbooks and 47 retail sportsbook licenses, with 11 online sportsbooks currently operational and a 12th one expected to launch soon.

Retail sportsbooks are located in casinos, horse racing tracks, and other venues, while online sportsbooks offer mobile betting apps. The law also allows for sports wagering at professional sports stadiums and arenas. Maryland taxes sports betting revenue at 15%, with a portion of the funds supporting education and problem gambling programs.

To ensure responsible gaming, operators must provide resources for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Maryland's sports betting market is expected to grow, with more operators entering the market and increased competition driving innovation and better services for consumers. Overall, Maryland's legalized sports betting provides a regulated and safe environment for adults to engage in sports wagering while generating revenue for the state.

Maryland's legalization of sports betting is expected to generate significant revenue for the state, with estimates suggesting that it could bring in up to $20 million in annual tax revenue. This revenue will be used to fund education and other state programs.
