A "straddle" in poker is a pre-deal optional blind wager placed by a player to the left of the big blind. It is a voluntarily extra wager that raises the stakes of the game and temporarily modifies the standard betting structure.
The following are the main aspects of poker straddles:
Placement: The player immediately to the left of the big blind usually places the straddle. Before any cards are delivered, this player has the option to place a straddle bet, which effectively doubles the huge blind amount. In essence, the straddle establishes a new betting level above the big blind.
Following the placement of the straddle, the following steps are taken.
