Is it true that slot machines can get "hot" and start paying out more than usual? In my experience of playing slots for years, I don't believe machines become hot in the literal sense. Casino slots are carefully programmed to pay out a certain percentage over the long run. While short-term patterns may seem random or lucky at times, I have not seen any convincing evidence that slot payouts can consistently deviate from the pre-set mathematical parameters built into the machines. Still, the "hot machine" myth endures among slot players due to the allure of chasing that elusive big win.
