Italy government targets underage gambling by blocking mobile SIMs

Italy is attempting to limit teenage access to other restricted content and online gambling by adopting a novel strategy. Rather than placing the responsibility for adhering to age verification protocols on gaming operators, it targets teenagers' smartphones and other gadgets.

If parental control is not enabled on their mobile devices, minors in Italy will no longer be allowed to freely browse the internet. A new rule that mandates mobile phone providers to restrict access to a range of content from SIM cards belonging to customers under the age of eighteen goes into effect on Tuesday.

The government has identified eight types of websites that are inappropriate. Among these are websites featuring gambling and betting-related content.
