Jamul Casino lawsuit ends with financial penalties

By fining the plaintiffs and their lawyers, a federal judge in California seeks to put an end to years of "legal harassment" against the Jamul Indian Village and its Jamul Casino.

The San Diego Roman Catholic Bishop is named in the most recent lawsuit, which has been dismissed. Since the tribe is a sovereign nation and cannot be sued in civil cases, it does not name the tribe. The bishop gave the tribe permission to use a nearby historic cemetery in 2017, and the lawsuit claimed that ongoing construction work for the casino is disturbing the cemetery.
