A chronic gambling addict who works as a tiler in Auckland has been compelled to pay $100,000 in restitution for tax evasion. Jianbao Lin was convicted last week in Manukau District Court and now must complete 150 hours of community service in addition to 11 months of home detention. Lin was found guilty on 18 counts, including willfully submitting incorrect or deceptive data to Inland Revenue in order to get Working for Families subsidies and dodging or trying to escape the assessment or payments of GST and tax on earnings.
