Justice Department declares illegal offshore gambling as a priority

Gaming regulators from seven states petitioned the US Department of Justice in April. They requested that DOJ intensify its investigation and punishment of shady offshore gambling sites that prey on American players. This Monday, the Justice Department responded with a letter reiterating its commitment to stop such illegal internet gaming activity. The American Gaming Association estimates that illegal gaming on unlicensed gambling websites totals more than $500 billion annually. According to the casino lobby, this causes states to lose out on almost $13 billion in tax revenue.
