Kansas Star Casino wins appeal against erroneous tax assessment payments

A state court recently determined that the Kansas Star Casino overpaid property taxes in 2014, and as a result, the casino resort is entitled to a refund of more than $19 million.

Since 2014, Boyd Gaming, the casino's owner and operator, has appealed the annual assessment of its assessed property valuation.

The Kansas Star is estimated to be worth roughly $102 million, according to the state gambling regulator. However, back taxes are due because the casino has already paid the full tax based on the county's $175 million assessment.
