The government of Kazakhstan has embarked on a comprehensive regulatory reform, making the groundbreaking decision to mandate that all gambling enterprises submit detailed reports on the gambling activities and profiles of Kazakh citizens.
The final approval for this measure was granted by the deputies of the Mazhilis (Parliament), who directed the inclusion of new reporting obligations in the Tax Code of Kazakhstan. To comply with these requirements, licensed Kazakh gambling operators will need to establish seamless integration between their hardware and software systems and the National Tax Authority's systems in order to automatically relay the necessary customer activity data.
This significant step comes in direct response to concerns raised about the increasing involvement of Kazakh youth in gambling, prompting President Kassym Tokayev to call for revisions to the existing regulatory framework. Assisting in this review process is Vice Minister Yerzhan Erkinbayev, who, in September, published draft amendments recommending an increase in the minimum gambling age from 21 to 25.
