On March 30, the Kentucky General Assembly's 2023 session came to an end, and supporters of the legalized sports betting bill gathered in Downtown Frankfort's Serafini for a celebration. Thayer thinks that now that sports betting is legal in Kentucky, the state's gambling problems have been resolved for the time being. However, a few legislators, including Beshear himself, have raised the prospect of bringing casinos to Kentucky. The so-called "gray machines," also referred to as skill games, are prohibited by a law that was passed earlier in the session and was then signed by Beshear. But game makers and a number of companies that host these machines have filed a lawsuit to prevent the law from going into effect at the end of June.
