Latvia seeking to enforce more stringent measures on illegal gambling advertisements

The Ministry of Finance proposed amendments to the Law on Advertising that would designate the Inspectorate for the Supervision of Lotteries and Gambling as the supervising authority.

The Law on Advertising Amendments will create a responsible body to oversee the gambling and lottery advertising market, guaranteeing prompt and expert action to stop the spread of gambling and lottery advertising in public areas.

This proposed amendment by the Ministry of Finance in Latvia is a significant step towards enforcing more stringent measures on illegal gambling advertisements. By designating the Inspectorate for the Supervision of Lotteries and Gambling as the supervising authority, the government aims to centralize the oversight of gambling and lottery advertising, thereby ensuring better control and regulation.

The establishment of a dedicated body to oversee the gambling and lottery advertising market is crucial in addressing the proliferation of such advertisements in public areas. By having a specialized authority with the expertise and resources to monitor, assess, and take action against illegal gambling advertisements, Latvia can better protect its citizens from the potential harms associated with excessive exposure to gambling promotions.

This move aligns with the broader global trend of tightening regulations around gambling advertising to safeguard vulnerable individuals, particularly young people, from being enticed into problematic gambling behaviors. It also reflects a proactive approach by the Latvian government to prioritize responsible gambling practices and minimize the negative impacts of excessive gambling marketing.

Overall, the proposed Law on Advertising Amendments in Latvia demonstrates a commitment to enforcing stricter measures on illegal gambling advertisements, ultimately contributing to a safer and more regulated gambling environment in the country.
