What are some examples of situations where lay bets are more profitable than back bets? I think when there is a clear favourite in an event, laying the strong favourite can be more profitable than backing them. For example, if a top tennis player is competing against a lower ranked player, laying the top player at odds-on instead of backing them may result in a better return. The potential liability as a layer will likely be lower than the lower potential winnings as a backer at odds-on. However, upsets do happen, so there are risks with laying any favourite.
