Lay Bets vs Back Bets

What are some examples of situations where lay bets are more profitable than back bets? I think when there is a clear favourite in an event, laying the strong favourite can be more profitable than backing them. For example, if a top tennis player is competing against a lower ranked player, laying the top player at odds-on instead of backing them may result in a better return. The potential liability as a layer will likely be lower than the lower potential winnings as a backer at odds-on. However, upsets do happen, so there are risks with laying any favourite.

In a match between a top tennis player and a player who is ranked lower, laying the top player at even money as opposed to backing them might yield a higher payout. If you support a wager at odds-on, your potential liability will probably be lower than your possible reward.
