A security guard at an apparent illegal gaming venue was fatally shot early Wednesday during an attempted robbery. The incident took place in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles, according to local news reports.
The lifeless body of the unidentified 33-year-old victim was discovered about 4 a.m. at a hookah lounge on West Cahuenga Boulevard outside of Universal Studios, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The lounge was believed to be a front for an unlicensed casino, Las Vegas TV station KTTV further reported.
Gambling included high-stakes games and a poker game was taking place during the attempted heist, Los Angeles TV station KABC reported.
