Lottery jackpot wins draw attention to delayed Alabama gambling legislation

The future of the existing laws establishing lotteries, commercial and tribal casinos, and sports betting is uncertain. There is a significant divide among lawmakers, and they won't have much time to resolve their differences when they reconvene. There are only thirty legislative days in a session, and this one ends in May with just twelve days left for lawmakers to pass legislation.

Alabama loses more than $1.2 billion a year, according to proponents of the gaming measures, as a result of the state's incomplete gambling regulations.
