Macau casinos close down as Typhoon Saola beckons

Macau's various casino resorts were temporarily closed as the Chinese region braced for high winds and rain from Typhoon Saola between Friday night and Saturday. The closures were scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. local time on Friday. There is yet no information on when the gambling properties will reopen. The casinos are an important aspect of the Macau economy. For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Macau casino revenue surpassed $2 billion in a single month in July.

The government's decision to close the region's estimated 36 casinos was only one of the many steps taken late this week in preparation for the severe weather.

It's good the government took it serious to protect people from the strong winds and rain. Nature can be very powerful, so it's wise they shut everything down till it passed. Hope no one was hurt and everyone stayed safe during the typhoon.
