Macau labor shortage stunting gambling recovery

The biggest casino industry story to yet in 2023 has been Macau's revival, which could be delayed down by a limited labor pool. The special administrative region reopened in full force this year after three years of interim closures and light business as China relaxed some of the strictest coronavirus regulations in the world. The tourist-dependent casino business in the enclave is once again thriving, but there aren't enough staff to let operators put the entire supply of guestrooms to market. The labor scarcity in Macau is getting worse due to other factors. Gaming enterprises must deal with a lengthy approval procedure when hiring non-Chinese citizens to work at casino hotels in the area.
