In spite of the challenges posed by coronavirus travel restrictions, Macau, the global gambling hub, placed fourth globally in terms of visitor spending in 2022. On the list of top cities for tourism spending, Dubai, Doha, and London placed higher than Macau. None of the cities can be regarded as resort destinations for casinos. Early this year, the Chinese government ended the harsh COVID-19 regulations in response to pressure from the international community and in an effort to bolster its faltering economy. This allowed Macau casinos to accept more guests.
