Man arrested for shoplifting at convenience store said he fasted for three days due to gambling debt

A 35-year-old man has been taken into custody by police on suspicion of robbing a convenience store.

According to police, the suspect, a worker for the company, told them he needed money because he hadn't been able to eat properly for three days and that he was deeply in debt to gamblers.

It was early in the morning when the incident happened. He is charged with stealing 30,000 yen in cash and threatening the male employee with a knife. There were no injuries to the worker.
