Man set to avoid jail after splurging employer's $13,000 on gambling

After the money was mistakenly transferred into his bank account by the firm, the man in Limerick "callously" stole over €13,000 belonging to his former employer. However, the judge told him that he will not serve a two-year jail sentence if he pays the money back in full and does not commit any new crimes.

According to the defendant, he felt as though he had "won the lotto" when he saw the €13,519.80 lump sum in his bank account, Limerick Circuit Criminal Court heard.
