The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency reports that income has increased year over year in almost every category. The organization in charge of regulating casinos and sports wagering businesses claims that during fiscal year 2023, these businesses contributed $1.589 billion to the state's coffers. After income, sales, and corporate taxes, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming is the state's fourth-largest source of revenues. In November 2022, mobile betting became available, expanding the sports betting market in Maryland. As that market expands, it's once again bringing iGaming, virtual slots, and other casino games into the spotlight.
