Massachusetts study concludes casinos have provided benefits to state

According to a recent study, Massachusetts has benefited overall from its three commercial casinos.

Massachusetts established a study commission to periodically assess the impact of casino gambling on the state two years after lawmakers approved up to three full-scale casinos with slot machines, table games, and a slots-only property.
According to researchers, the majority of Massachusetts residents who "were previously spending this money out-of-state" provide the state's continuous revenue and tax stream.

A recent study highlights the positive impact of Massachusetts' three commercial casinos on the state's economy. Following the state’s approval of up to three full-scale casinos and one slots-only venue, a study commission was established to monitor the effects of casino gambling on Massachusetts. Researchers found that much of the revenue and tax stream is contributed by residents who previously gambled out-of-state, thus retaining more gaming funds locally. The data supports that these casinos are a reliable source of revenue and bring financial benefits, reducing gambling-related expenditures outside Massachusetts.
