MGM casino employees stand firm in rejection of pay rise proposal

Employees at two casinos in Detroit will resume work this week after being off for more than a month. At the third big casino in the city, the strike is still in effect.

Workers at MGM Grand Casino will continue to strike after their members voted to reject the proposed deal, while those at Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity Casino voted over the weekend to ratify a proposed new five-year contract.

Employee pay increases averaged 18% as a result, which the union refers to as the biggest pay increase in Detroit casino industry history.
