Michigan legislators seeking to increase sports betting tax

A bill that was recently presented to the Michigan Senate aims to increase taxes on business profits from retail and mobile sports betting as well as online casino gaming. The amount that tribes pay for their online gaming, retail, and online sports betting earnings would not be impacted by the proposals. Only commercial businesses would be subject to higher tax rates as a result of the reforms. Amendments to Native Americans' Class III gaming compacts would be required in order to alter tribal sports betting and iGaming tax rates.
