Michigan regulator issues cease-and-desist to Bovada casino operator

A cease-and-desist order has been issued by the Michigan Gaming Control Board against Bovada, a company based in Curaçao, for enabling Michigan residents to access their games.

The regulator claims that Michigan players can access Bovada.com and Bovada.lv thanks to Bovada operator Harp Media BV. Even though it lacks the necessary license, this is the case.

It is a crime to operate an unlicensed gambling business. A fine of up to $100,000, ten years in prison, or both could be imposed on offenders.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has issued a cease-and-desist order to Bodog Entertainment, the operator of Bovada casino, for offering online gambling services to Michigan residents without a valid license.
The MGCB states that Bovada:
- Operated without a valid license in Michigan
- Accepted wagers from Michigan residents
- Violated state gambling laws
