Michigan tribe continues to pursue land-based casino expansion

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has been working to build two new casinos in an effort to increase its land-based presence for over ten years. Although the Tribe now runs five Kewadin Casinos in the upper peninsula of Michigan, it has been looking to expand to Lansing and New Boston.

In 2012, the SSM Tribe made purchases of land at the two locations mentioned above. In the end, it was anticipated that the Tribe would use the land for its new casinos, which would stimulate the economy.
