Minister for gambling: Industry interests and harm reduction are "not incompatible"

The Gambling Minister described the government's strategy for the current Gambling Act Review, a legislative and policy initiative that was started in 2020 with the goal of making the nation's regulations "fit for the digital age."
Scully was giving a speech at a conference organized by the nonprofit GambleAware.
Reform, according to Scully, wouldn't necessarily require balancing opposing interests because they were often closely related.
The minister said, "Harms, including addiction or compulsive gambling as a health concern, are critical issues. But we must also ensure that regulation is reasonable, fair, and effective for the vast majority of gamblers who do so without suffering negative consequences.
