Mississippi legislators strongly oppose bill proposing the establishment of a Jackson casino

The failure illustrates the continuous conflict between Jackson's proponents of economic development and those attempting to preserve the city's long-standing casino revenue streams. Despite the protections provided by the legislation, lawmakers from districts that already had casinos steadfastly opposed the plan, arguing that it would cause market cannibalization.

Despite not passing this year, proponents of the Jackson casino bill are still keen to bring the bill up again in subsequent legislative sessions. As lawmakers continue to debate the future of the gambling industry, particularly with regard to the likely inevitable introduction of iGaming and online sports betting, Mississippi's gambling landscape is still in flux.
