More signatures from Missouri voters than needed to start a ballot initiative for the November election were turned in this week by a campaign to legalize sports betting in the state.
In addition to choosing the next US president, Missourians will also decide whether to permit sports gambling in the state in November, provided the governor's office certifies the required number of signatures. Should the sports betting question receive a simple majority of votes, Missouri would enact legislation regulating such gambling alongside 38 other states and the District of Columbia.
