Montenegro to revise unworkable e-payments ban on gambling transactions

The contentious proposed ban on digital wallets, payment methods, and mobile apps for betting transactions will be reevaluated by Montenegro.

This year, the government passed laws outlawing the use of electronic payment methods for online gambling services, such as PayPal and Apple Pay. The laws that will probably impede Montenegro's attempts to join the EU were immediately criticized by longstanding members of the betting industry in the country.

Several months later, with revisions anticipated later this year, Montenegro is reevaluating the mandate. The ban is drawing criticism from the public and business community from the government.
