My Advice for Gamblers

Here is my advice for gamblers:

• Only gamble what you can afford to lose. Set a strict budget and stick to it. Once your gambling money is gone for the day or trip, stop playing.

• Don't chase losses. Accept that you won't always win and losing money is part of the game. Don't bet bigger to try and recoup losses, that is a sure path to getting in over your head.

• Know when to walk away. If you're not having fun anymore or you're losing money quickly, take a break and do something else. You can always come back another day.

• Don't get caught up in the moment. Take time to think about your bets and don't just react impulsively. Make strategic bets based on the odds, not emotions.

• Do your research. Know the odds of the games you want to play and study basic strategies to make smarter bets. Being informed will help you gamble more responsibly.

• Only gamble for entertainment. Never gamble when you're upset or tired. Remember that gambling is just for fun, not a way to make money or solve financial problems.

• Take frequent breaks. Gambling for long periods of time impairs your judgment. Take short breaks to walk around, get something to eat, or step away from the table games and slots. A fresh perspective will help you make better decisions.

• Know when it's no longer fun. If gambling starts causing you problems or you find it difficult to stop, seek help from a medical professional. You can call the National Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700 for support and resources.
