National Lottery Heritage Fund allocates £1.25million to preserve historic places of worship

With an emphasis on architectural preservation and community involvement, the National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded £1.25 million in grants to help eight places of worship in the United Kingdom. Two churches in Newcastle upon Tyne are among the prominent recipients; they were given £163,600 for the Discover Jesmond 1888 initiative. Through a historical trail and community activities program, the project will link the United Reformed Church and St George's Church in Jesmond, both of which have rare Lewis & Company pipe organs.
