Netherlands consumer survey finds rise in gambling addiction

There appears to be an increase in problem gambling, according to a survey on consumer behavior in the Netherlands. Substance abuse is also tracked by the study, which observed a sharp increase from 2022 to 2023.

Reportedly, 46% of individuals seeking assistance for the first time did so from treatment centers for problem gambling. 88% of the population was male, and 75% of them were in their 25–55 age range. Alcohol abuse was most prevalent in substance abuse disorders, which were present in about 44% of individuals who engaged in harmful gambling.
