New chairman of Dutch gambling regulator promises to tackle illegal gambling ads

His first public appearance as the chair of the Dutch gambling regulator was noteworthy. Speaking to the public, he voiced his worries about the expansion of the black market and likened illicit businesses to unrestrained pirates.

The unlicensed operators' willingness to take advantage of the gaps in Dutch regulations and profit from unsuspecting parties appalled him. He thought back to the recent advertisements he had seen of young people considering suicide before they became wealthy as a result of a particular gambling operator.
