A casino development firm that has spent years fighting for a license to establish a racino in Tucumcari is not finished yet. The state now allows only six racino licenses under existing gaming compacts between New Mexico and its 14 federally recognized tribes. Five of them have already been issued.
The winner of the coveted sixth license was expected to be announced by the New Mexico Racing Commission in late 2018. The announcement, however, was delayed and eventually prevented by a court injunction.
