New South Wales cashless gaming report shows minute changes in player behavior

The results of the first cashless gaming trial in New South Wales have drawn criticism from proponents of gambling reform.

Players could transfer money straight onto the gaming machine from a digital wallet on their smartphones, which was linked to an external bank account, thanks to technology installed on 144 of the machines.

Features like limit setting that are optional for responsible gaming were included in the technology.

Although the venue did not report any evidence of revenue changes, there was evidence to suggest that more people than those who reported an increase reduced the amount they spent on gambling each day.
