New study predicts negative effects of online gambling on economy and society in US states

The study highlighted the effects of iGaming, projecting that it would lead to job losses, a decline in state tax revenues, and a decline in land-based sector revenues. Furthermore, the study found that online gamblers are eight times more likely to suffer from compulsive gambling, indicating that iGaming can cause serious harm.

According to the study, states that have legalized online gambling are predicted to experience severe financial losses, with thousands of jobs lost by 2029.

Potential issues include increased addiction rates, financial instability for individuals, and higher social costs related to problem gambling. While online gambling may generate revenue, the study warns that long-term consequences could outweigh short-term financial benefits, impacting public health and economic stability.
