New study reveals that social media use is linked to gambling addiction

Researchers' recent study, which was published in The British Medical Journal, alerts readers to the possibility that youth use of social media may be associated with health-risky behaviors like increased gambling.

Between 1997 and 2022, more than 126 studies were examined for this research. All told, it involved about 139 million teenagers, who were fifteen years old on average.

Prior research has indicated negative associations between social media use and some risky behaviors. Still, the majority had concentrated only on university students. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the association between health-risky behaviors and social media usage among teenagers, ages 10 to 19.
