New UK gambling guidelines fail to acknowledge long term viability of loot boxes

More strict regulations governing the selling of video games may soon be implemented in the UK, especially when it comes to in-game transactions made from loot boxes that provide random in-game things. Concerned about the products' potential for gambling, gaming industry nonprofit Ukie has established a number of measures to protect against these products, guaranteeing that only people over the age of 18 are allowed to purchase them. The focus is constantly on loot boxes, skins, player packs, and other in-game stuff. The majority of the time, gamers buy the things in sealed containers without understanding what's inside. Some politicians interpret this to suggest that they constitute a type of gambling.
