During the public meeting held by the New York State Gaming Commission in October, the chairman expressed concerns regarding wage-related issues involving renowned horse trainers. He went on to discuss a US District Court's ruling that mandated a trainer to pay substantial sums in back wages, penalties, and fines.
The chairman further highlighted that this wasn't the first instance where trainers and their stables had faced penalties for violating federal labor laws, resulting in the need to reimburse wages, cover damages, and pay fines.
Subsequently, the commission requested the trainer to furnish employment records and provide an explanation of how they believe they still meet the licensure requirements of New York State. The commission is currently in the process of evaluating the trainer's response.
