New Zealand announces iGaming legislation to thwart offshore websites

The government of New Zealand is making steps to legalize online casino gaming in an attempt to limit the ability of offshore gaming websites to target players in the island nation in the Pacific Ocean.

The iGaming news comes from the Minister of Internal Affairs of New Zealand, who stated this week that by early 2026, a regulatory framework for the issuance of online gaming licenses will be in place. There will only be a restricted quantity of licenses granted, and those that do will need to clear background checks, pay taxes on their gross gaming revenue, offer consumer protections, and promote responsible gaming.
