New Zealand government plans to auction off licenses for online casinos

The government intends to put online casino licenses up for auction, but in order to reduce harm and increase tax revenue, it is also putting forth a number of regulations.

The Internal Affairs Minister has detailed the regulations that will apply to online casinos. A restricted quantity of licenses will be granted for periods of three years, and operators will need to fulfill specific requirements prior to providing services.

Although SkyCity Entertainment operates an online casino based in Malta, they are currently prohibited in New Zealand. The company has long advocated for industry regulation.
