North Carolina casino discussions halted by budget constraints

North Carolina casino talks came to a halt last week when the House Speaker stated that he did not have the necessary support among his party to move forward with adding a gambling component to the roughly $30 billion budget measure that is currently being debated in the capital. State lawmakers are still meeting in extraordinary session to work out their unfinished budget for 2023-25. The senator proposed inserting a casino provision in the budget, but opposition from residents and local leaders in the targeted counties forced several state politicians to withdraw their support.

I was hoping they'd finally legalize more gambling options there which would bring more tourism and tax revenue to the state. The senator made a smart move trying to include it in the budget bill. Hopefully they can find a compromise soon to help convince more of the politicians.
